Wanting it...

Religion Sucks. Grace Acts. This blog is a clearing house for a movement. We hope that these articles will prod, provoke and inspire you to re-discover the good news which Jesus proclaims.

Wanting it...

If you've been around church for a while you already know all the stuff, you know that Jesus came to bring a revolution to your life, your family, your street, your city and the whole of creation. So often we stop at mere agreement. Thinking that simply a transformation in our belief equals a transformation of our life. But if Jesus had wanted your head, He could have just made a Power Point presentation. That is what James 2 is all about; "Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by what I do." Faith and deeds go hand in hand. Deeds without faith leave us with a suffocating, lifeless sense of duty, but faith without deeds is conceited and disingenuous. Abraham proved his faith in God on the mountain top with Isaac.

Thankfully for us it's not down to us to transform our lives, all you've got to do is want it. Take a look at the clip below, players on both sides say they want to win but one guy (Rondo) proves how much he want's it by putting his body on the line.

The funny thing is, the Celtics were up by about 20 points at that point. No one would have thought any less of him if he had just let the defender collect the ball, but he wants to win every ball not because he thinks he should, it's in his blood. He proves his commitment it on the court, his actions make clear the state of his heart. Now of course our intention is always going to be greater than our action, that is how we grow. Yet if you simply let your intention grow without spending time working it out, "with fear and trembling", it's pointless.

Thankfully for us, It's God that does the work, the only thing that's on us is desire, and real desire is made evident in action. If you're life doesn't reflect your intention, if your philosophical and theological commitments aren't apparent in your practical time and financial commitments, it's time to get real, what's really important to you. Maybe the best thing you could do is to go away for a while, stop pretending to want it and just admit that your not interested, I know I spent a good two years away from church trying to find meaning elsewhere until I finally realised what a fool I was. Jesus promises to bring a revolution to our personal, familial, social, economic and political life (the whole thing), does that sound like good news to you? Or are you happy with how things are? Do you want it like Rondo or are you faking it? If you're not sure just check your bank statement and your calendar and you'll quickly see what it is that you want.
